Volunteer Application

From October 21st – 24th downtown Kelowna is going to come alive with over 60 bands performing in 10 downtown venues (see lineup here), a 3 day music industry conference will be taking place in the day. Throw in an artistic awards show on the Saturday and the Western Canadian Music Awards on Sunday night and you’ve got a busy fun weekend.

So I know what you’re thinking, how can I get involved and attend some of these events for free!?! Become a volunteer! There are opportunities to host and work at Festival venues, assist and take part in the industry conference, assist in transportation of famous performers and agents, or lend a hand at the awards.

We are looking for volunteers of various ages, abilities (musical or otherwise), and availability. Shifts range from 10:00am until 2:00am Wednesday – Sunday. Be part of the most exciting event to hit Kelowna to date.

Get access to the events! All volunteers will be provided with an official BreakOut West t-shirt, a festival wristband good for any of the venues on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night ($20 value), and the opportunity to learn new skills and meet important people in the music industry.

Please fill out an application form outlining your availability and Sonya the volunteer coordinator will find a shift to fit your availability and interest.

The Western Canadian Music Alliance (WCMA) stages the Western Canadian Music Awards, BreakOut West Conference and Festival in Western Canada to unite, promote, develop and educate independent labels, artists and managers. The WCMA will further stimulate the public’s interest in and awareness of the live, original and independent music from Canada’s western provinces.

  1. As of today, i am free the entire festival. I have aspirations to work in the music indsutry and am currently saving to attend PAVI ( Pacific audio visual institute ) for music business. This would be an ideal way to get a foot in the door as well as a general idea. Please contact me back at your liesure.

My greatest claim to fame is as a founder and performer with Tanglefoot, an Ontario based group which recently retired after 30+ years in the business. While a member of Tanglefoot, I benefited from the good will of volunteers at festivals around the country. Now that I’m retired in the Okanagan, the Breakout West Festival seems like a good opportunity to reengage.

    Hello,

I would like to know how long of a shift/s and over how many days must we commit to as volunteers.

I would also like to know what I would be entitled to as a volunteer in terms of free tickets etc.

The above information is somewhat vague.

Thank you for your assistance, I look forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

    Kindest Regards,

    Heather Eichinger
