My recap – 2nd night of the festival

I’m finally getting around to reflecting back on the 2nd night of the festival and the shows I saw.  Night 1 was a blast, with so many great artists from the peak Performance project.  On Friday night it started out with checking out Ariane Mahryke Lemire who played to a packed room at The Keg Lounge.  Memphis Blues had a cool vibe, with people eating their pulled pork sandwiches and enjoying the micro-brews on tap.  Saskatcewan’s Volcanoless in Canada had the crowd going.  I couldn’t get in to see Michael Bernard Fitzgerarld as the place was packed, but I caught a great set by Jen Lane at Habitat before heading over to hometown favourite Ryan Donn at O’Flannigans.  The crowd was in anticipation to see We Are the City and You Say party at Habitat, and the lineup was down the street, so I decided to spend a few hours at Doc Willoughby’s with friends while Violent Kin played a great set of electro-rock!  The final act of the night for me (also at Doc’s) was the Dudes who rocked the capacity crowd, and threw in some cool Bob Dylan and Motley Crue covers.

Festival Night 2

I’ll do a recap of last night a bit later today with lots of pictures.  It was another big night of performances with 40 bands playing at 9 venues.  All the venues had huge crowds, and you may have had to line up for a bit, but the bands performing made it all worth the wait.

Tonight’s lineup includes Grapes of Wrath, Grand Analog, Kingdom Cloud, Royal Canoe and many more.  Plus, the Francophone showcase will be held at Bohemian Cafe starting at 8pm with Mireille Moquin.

BreakOut West Night 1 recap

What a night.  I managed to check out all 6 venues that were having shows last night, and from the conversations I had with people, and the conversations I overheard, people were really stoked.  It was amazing to start off the night to a packed house at teh Streaming Cafe for Christopher Arruda.  From there I got to see two amazingly talented woman – Jess Hill and her band at Doc Willoughby’s and Christina Maria at Cush.  Cush had a great vibe, cool lighting, and 2 space cadets in full Astronaut gear. Then it was back to the Streaming Cafe for Adaline.  Another stellar performance from her. I caught a few songs from Bodhi Jones, and he had the capacity crowd captibated at Doc’s.  Greg Szcebel did his magic at Gotcha’s, spending a lot of his time on the dance floor with the crowd.  Check him out tonight at 9:45pm at Gotcha’s after Adaline, if you missed him last night. Kuba Oms kept the dance floor going after Greg finished.  I missed Aidian Knight‘s set at Habitat, but he joined his friends Said the Whale on stage.  Another incredible performance by this Vancouver band to teh sold out crowd at Habitat.  I winded down the night at O’Flannigan’s with the amazing Vince Vaccaro.  Another performer who also spent a lot of time wondering and playing amonsgt the crwod.  Great energy, and a sing-a-long of “The Redemption Song” to cap off night one.

So check out tonight’s lineup.  We have 3 more venues tonight for a total of 9, so check out The Keg, Memphis Blues and The Grateful Fed.

I’m been keeping the BOWKelowna twitter feed going #breakoutwest and posting to the Facebook page.  Don’t forget to join the conversation, share your pictures, videos and stay in the loop with the Mobile app.
